Anail De (The Breath Of God) with Gavin Bryars
Anáil Dé - The Breath Of God is the sublime musical meeting of iconic contemporary classical composer Gavin Bryars and the ethereal voice of Irish music, Iarla Ó’Lionáird.
Taking inspiration from Ancient Irish spiritual texts, Gavin Bryars has composed a song-cycle of inescapable beauty for one of the most remarkable voices in world music today. A mature and profound collaboration between two acclaimed artists, Anáil Dé - The Breath Of God is at once utterly modern and truly timeless.
Composer Gavin Bryars is best known for his landmark works such as Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet featuring Tom Waits and The Sinking of the Titanic. Both pieces have enjoyed major recording success in various versions. Bryars’ music draws on his minimalist training with John Cage and the ambient influences of Brian Eno. One of the great composers at work today, his music is marked by its emotional power. His is a deeply humanist modern music at once iconoclastic and emotionally charged.
"Ó Lionáird... accompanied by double bass and electric guitar, was a perfect collaboration.” Journal of Music in Ireland
